After some suggestions within Ubuntu artwork team mailing list, I came up with one more solution for "universal" Ubuntu DVD cover. This time it's even more simplified, and it's completely in aubergine/white color palette, like recent official Ubuntu sleeves are. Also this time it's done in Pictogram style, with circles all around, to make it more officialish and Ubuntu related. (Well, at least current Ubuntu visual identity is pictogram style oriented.)

For those who wants to put a specific version label on this cover, I will upload a psd file too, on spreadubuntu. So as soon as I do that, I will paste the links here.

Very nice! I like the aubergine color a lot better than the orange.

It's okay, but you have to really think like an average user here. I personally think "gnome desktop environment", tux icon (both on the cover and side), 3 icons on the back (gear, reload button thing, cd), the up-to-date stuff, and reflection of fast, beautiful, secure on the front should go. And that should make this short enough for an actual cd case.

I think that stuff should be removed because I find them unnecessary. There's no need for the tux there, people will just get confused at why that is there, they don't need to know what desktop environment they're using, I don't really see what those icons represent, and I don't think a reflection would look good on paper.

I respect your opinion, and suggestions as well.

I'm not sure did you unintentionally said CD case, instead DVD case. Because the whole point of those DVD linux related covers of mine, is to AVOID standard CD cases, and allow people to pack their OSs in a DVD boxes. So I'm not trying to make layers that will be "short enough for an actual cd case" as you said. Following that, it's not that nice when you have a huge sized cover (concretely 27,3 x 18,3 cm, which is DVD cover actual size), with only few lines of info, and 80% of empty space.
About TUX, I've already discussed it on my last cover, I just find it a cute little addition, cause it is widely recognised as a linux logo, so as much as it is not related concretely to Ubuntu, at the same time it is.
Considering 3 pictograms on the back, you can find them on the Ubuntu site, in same order, and with same info. And they represent just the line that is written below, Ubuntu up-to-date nature.

At the end, the whole point of making DVD cover (considering it's size, which allows is to be more info-related, and more professional), is to not look pointless and empty. And without all stuff I like to put on them, they would be really pointless, and then I would be satisfied with my little Ubuntu CD sleeve.

Cheers my friend.
