After some time off-deviantart due to my faculty duties, here I am again, with some work in progress.
Almost everything is already written in preview, but let's confirm some things again.
This is the basic DVD cover concept I have on my mind for upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS edition. I jumped over 11.04 and 11.10 editions for simple reasons, and that is Unity. I didn't like it, I didn't use it, so I didn't find any motive to create covers for these two 2011 editions.
But since Ubuntu is again showing some stability and solidness with recent updates, I decided to create artwork for it again, as I hope 12.04 version will be solid enough. This is just a starting point. It might, and it might not look like final version, but I think the main shell is there. Comparing to my previous covers I wanted this to be the most clean and the most effective one. And at the same time the most effect-less when it comes to layer effects. Even I didn't follow ubuntu brand guidelines strictly, there are enough elements to make this cover recognizable and ubuntuish.
Check it, and even I'm an egoistic asshole, if you have some suggestions, I might take them...
Only the zero is good. This is for numbers, of course. Thw whole thing is so brilliant. Hope this cover -or similar- will be used with original CD/DVD.
Well my friend, it's not gonna be official in any way, as Canonical is publishing their own sleeves with every version. This is just an alternative if you think Canonical sleeves are lifeless and unimaginative, as I do. And ofcourse if you want to pack your OS into DVD box, like all great software is packed.
Now, what if you extended the small dot matrix and eliminated the white space bordering 12.04?
Just a thought.

About font, I also find it very stylish, but it seems that noone else is loving it (if you talk about version number font).
Do you have link to that font?
the 4 does look a little wird, but still easy to tell its a 4, in my opinion.
